Help grow the database!
What you don't see on the menu.
Real earnings and honest reviews from people who actually work there. See what you'll make and what the job is actually like before you apply.
You've heard the pitch. Now hear the truth from people who actually work there.
What do servers actually take home on a typical dinner shift? What about weekend brunch? See the real numbers, not the recruiting pitch.
How's management? Is scheduling fair? Do you actually get support from bussers and runners? Find out before your first day.
Workers share real information without risking their jobs. No names, no identifying details, just honest intel.
Worked at a restaurant? Share what you made and what it was like. Your report helps everyone make better decisions.
Help grow the database!
These reviews are submitted anonymously by individuals who claim to have worked at this restaurant. BehindTables does not verify the accuracy of these submissions. Reviews that we believe to contain false information will be removed. If you believe a review contains false or defamatory information, please contact us.
Schedule is relatively fair, with seniority getting top priority. Management is constantly rotating and not always good. The other employees all get along relatively well but favoritism is common.
Share your experience to help others make better decisions.
If you've ever worked in a restaurant, you know the frustration. Every place tells you they have "great tips" and a "fun team." But unless you know someone who actually works there, you have no way to verify what's real. You don't know if you'll make $150 or $300 on a typical shift. You don't know if management is supportive or a nightmare. You don't know if the tip pool is fair or if you'll be running food with no support staff.
BehindTables is a community where food service workers share real information about what it's actually like to work at restaurants. Real earnings numbers. Honest reviews about management, scheduling, and workplace culture. All anonymous, so people can be truthful without risking their jobs.
We're replacing private word-of-mouth with transparent, community-generated data. Think of it as a way to make better decisions about where to work, based on real information from people who've actually been there.
We will never charge workers to access information. This is a community resource, not a business product.
No real names, no exact dates, no identifying details. Share your experience without risking your livelihood.
Every decision we make prioritizes the needs of food service workers, not restaurants or advertisers.
Numbers don't lie. We focus on actual take-home pay and concrete workplace details, not vague feelings.
The more workers who share their experiences, the better this gets for everyone. After your next shift, take 60 seconds to add what you made and what the workplace is like. Your report helps someone else make a better decision about where to work.
We're building this for you. If you have ideas, concerns, or just want to say hi, we'd love to hear from you.
hello@behindtables.comBehindTables is built for you: the server, bartender, busser, or runner who needs real information before taking a job. Here's how to use it.
Use the search bar on the homepage to look up any restaurant by name or location. You'll see a list of restaurants with:
Click on any restaurant to see the full breakdown.
On each restaurant page, you'll find:
Workers rate the restaurant on management quality, scheduling fairness, support staff, and tip pool fairness. These ratings focus on the workplace environment, not the food or guest service.
See what people actually take home. We show typical ranges, median earnings, and average shift lengths for each position (server, bartender, support). All earnings are reported after tip-out unless noted otherwise.
Read what workers say about the day-to-day reality. Is management supportive? Are tips consistent? Do you get good shifts if you're new? This is the real intel you can't get from a job posting.
When you share your experience, you help everyone. Here's what we ask for:
Everything is anonymous. We don't ask for your name, exact dates, or any identifying information. You're helping others without putting yourself at risk.
Restaurants change over time with new management, tip pool policies, and workplace culture shifts. We prioritize recent reports so you're seeing current information. Older reports remain visible but carry less weight in the overall ratings.
If something isn't clear or you need help using the site, reach out.
hello@behindtables.comBehindTables is a free platform where food service workers share real information about what it's like to work at restaurants. You can see actual earnings, read honest workplace reviews, and make better decisions about where to apply. No account required.
Yes. BehindTables will always be free for workers. You can search restaurants, read all the data, and share your own experience without paying anything or creating an account.
BehindTables was created by people who understand what it's like to start a new restaurant job without reliable information. We built this because workers deserve access to real data before they accept a position. This platform exists to serve workers, not restaurants.
Yes. We don't ask for your name, email, phone number, or any identifying information. When you share your experience, it's completely anonymous. No account required.
Your employer can see the reviews on BehindTables just like anyone else, but they won't know who wrote them. We don't collect any information that could identify you, and we deliberately keep details vague (timeframes instead of exact dates, typical earnings instead of specific shifts).
That's exactly what this platform is for. As long as you're being honest and not including identifying details about yourself, you can share your real experience, whether positive or negative. That's how we help others make informed decisions.
Use the search bar on the homepage. You can search by restaurant name or location. If you're browsing, you can also filter by city, role, price point, and tip model.
This is what you usually made on an average shift, after tip-out. Not your best night or worst night, just what was typical. This helps others understand what to realistically expect.
You can, but we prioritize recent reports (last 6 months) because restaurants change. Older information is still visible but weighted less in the overall ratings to keep things current.
When you share your experience, you can type in any restaurant name. If it's not in our database yet, we'll add it. You'll be the first person to provide information about that place.
We rely on the community to keep things accurate. If multiple people report similar earnings and experiences, that's a good signal. If a report seems way off from others, we flag it for review. You can also mark reports as helpful or not helpful to improve quality over time.
Users can report suspicious content, and we review anything that's flagged. We also use patterns to identify outliers. If one report claims $1000/shift when everyone else reports $200, that's an obvious red flag. The more reports a restaurant has, the harder it is for fake data to skew the numbers.
Every report shows when it was submitted and what timeframe the person worked there. We prioritize recent reports in our calculations. If you see that all the reports are from 2 years ago, that's a sign we need more current information.
About 60 seconds. We ask for the basics: restaurant name, your role, when you worked there, typical take-home, and any notes about the workplace. That's it.
The most important fields are restaurant name, your role, and typical earnings. Everything else is optional but helpful. Even a quick report with just the basics is valuable.
Because we don't use accounts, once you submit a report it becomes part of the community database and can't be edited. If you notice an error or want to update information, you can submit a new report with current details.
We aggregate multiple reports from real workers, so no single person can skew the data. The more reports a restaurant has, the more accurate the picture. If you see 15 people reporting $150-200 per shift, that's reliable. If there's only 1 report, take it with a grain of salt and check back later as more people contribute.
Those sites focus on corporate jobs and often require accounts. BehindTables is specifically built for hourly food service workers - servers, cooks, hosts, bussers, bartenders. We focus on the metrics that matter most to these roles: actual take-home pay per shift, tip-out percentages, and schedule flexibility. No resume-building features, just real earnings data.
No. Restaurants cannot pay us to remove, edit, or hide reviews. The only way content is removed is if it violates our Community Guidelines (fake data, identifying information, harassment, etc.). We exist to serve workers, not restaurants.
No. We don't collect enough data about you to even have something to sell. We don't know who you are, we don't track you across the internet, and we don't share anything with third parties except basic analytics (like how many people visited the site). See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Not from us. We don't collect names, emails, phone numbers, or IP addresses linked to submissions. However, be smart: if you're the only bartender who worked at XYZ Restaurant in December 2024 and you post incredibly specific details, someone might figure it out. Keep your reports general.
That would likely be illegal retaliation. Document any threats and contact an employment attorney. We also want to know - report it to hello@behindtables.com. While we can't provide legal advice, we take threats against our users seriously and may take action like adding a warning to that restaurant's page.
We're still growing! The platform relies on workers like you to add information. If your city doesn't have many listings yet, you can help by being one of the first to share data about restaurants where you've worked. Every entry helps build the database.
No, we don't post job listings. We're purely an information resource about existing restaurants. Think of us as research you do before you apply somewhere - we tell you what it's really like to work there, but we don't connect you to job openings.
Not yet. The website works great on mobile browsers though. If we grow enough and people want an app, we'll consider building one. For now, you can bookmark behindtables.com on your phone's home screen for quick access.
We mark restaurants as "Closed" if we receive multiple reports that they're no longer operating. If ownership changes significantly (new management, rebrand, etc.), we may split the listing to show "before" and "after" data, since working conditions often change dramatically with new ownership.
Larger restaurants with more staff naturally get more reports. Chain restaurants tend to have more data than independent spots. Trendy or high-profile restaurants might attract more contributors. Over time, this should even out as more workers discover the platform.
Look at the number of reports. A one-star rating from 1 person might be an outlier - a bad experience that wasn't typical. A one-star rating from 20 people is a pattern. Same with five stars. Always read the actual reports to understand the context behind the ratings.
This happens! Earnings can vary by shift (weekday vs weekend), season (summer vs winter), section (bar vs dining room), and experience level. This is why we show a range and encourage people to report "typical" earnings, not their best or worst shifts.
Yes! Even short-term experience is valuable. Just note in your report that you only worked there briefly. Others can benefit from knowing about onboarding, first impressions, training quality, etc.
You can absolutely report on your current job. In fact, current employee reports are the most valuable because they're the most up-to-date. Just be general in your timeframes ("currently employed" or "last 6 months") and don't include anything that could identify you.
If you've worked enough shifts to have a sense of typical earnings and workplace culture, yes. If you only covered one shift for a friend, probably skip it - you don't have enough experience to give an accurate picture.
Yes! Even chains can vary significantly by location. Management, staff, and volume can be completely different at two locations of the same brand, 5 miles apart.
We don't currently support file uploads to protect anonymity. Uploading a photo of your paystub, schedule, or employee handbook might accidentally include identifying information. Stick to text descriptions of what you experienced.
Follow these steps for the best results:
Use the interview to verify. Ask about the specific issues you saw mentioned (tip-out structure, schedule flexibility, management turnover). Their answers will tell you if things have changed or if the problems persist. Trust patterns over single complaints.
That's up to you. Some people do as a negotiation tactic: "I saw online that servers here typically make $X, is that accurate?" Others prefer to keep it quiet. There's no wrong answer.
Not at this time. We keep the platform focused on worker-to-worker communication. However, if your restaurant is consistently getting negative feedback, we'd encourage you to look inward and make changes rather than try to explain or justify the issues publicly.
You don't. Listings are community-created and community-maintained. If you want better reviews, create a better workplace. Pay fairly, manage well, treat your staff with respect, and the data will reflect that.
No, and we never will allow this. Anonymity protects workers from retaliation. If you're worried about what your employees might say about your restaurant, perhaps focus on creating a workplace they'd want to speak positively about.
If a report contains factually incorrect information (wrong address, claiming you're closed when you're open, wrong tip-out percentage, etc.), email us at hello@behindtables.com with documentation. We'll review and remove genuinely false information. However, we won't remove negative but truthful reports just because you disagree with someone's experience.
If you do these things, positive reports will naturally appear over time.
Try refreshing the page. Make sure you're spelling the restaurant name correctly (try variations). If a restaurant truly isn't in our database yet, you won't find it - but you can be the first to add it when you share your experience.
Email us at hello@behindtables.com with your phone model and browser. We test on all major devices, but there's always edge cases. Include a screenshot if possible.
Yes! Every restaurant has its own URL. You can share links directly with friends, post them in Discord/Slack, or bookmark them for later.
Not currently. If you're a researcher, journalist, or developer interested in accessing our data, contact hello@behindtables.com and tell us about your project.
BehindTables exists to help food service workers make informed decisions about where to work. These guidelines help maintain a community built on honesty, respect, and useful information.
Share your real experience. Report typical earnings, not your best or worst nights. If you're unsure about something, it's okay to say so. The value of this platform depends on honest, accurate information.
Don't post fake reviews, inflate or deflate earnings, or intentionally mislead others. If we identify patterns of dishonest reporting, we'll remove the content.
Don't include identifying details about yourself or others in your reports. This includes:
Keep your reports general. Say "management" instead of naming specific people. Use timeframes like "last 3 months" instead of exact dates.
BehindTables is for workplace information, not restaurant reviews. Share details about:
Don't review the food, service quality, or guest experience. That's not what this platform is for.
You can share negative experiences without being disrespectful. Stick to facts and avoid personal attacks, harassment, or discriminatory language. We will remove content that:
Don't submit multiple reports for the same workplace unless you've worked there at different times. Don't post on behalf of others or coordinate with coworkers to inflate or deflate ratings. Each report should represent one person's genuine experience.
If you see content that violates these guidelines, you can report it. Look for the "Report" option on any review. We review all flagged content and take action when necessary.
Common reasons to report:
We review all reported content. Depending on the severity of the violation, we may:

BehindTables is a platform where food service workers share honest, anonymous information about their workplace experiences. Workers can view and contribute data about:
Our goal is to create a more transparent labor market where workers can make informed decisions and great employers can attract talent more effectively.
The restaurant industry has historically operated on word-of-mouth when it comes to workplace quality. This creates information asymmetry: restaurants know what they're offering, but workers often don't until they've already accepted a position.
Transparency helps great restaurants stand out. If you treat your team well, pay fairly, and create a positive work environment, BehindTables gives your current and former employees a platform to share that.
All reviews on BehindTables are anonymous and focus on workplace conditions, not food quality or guest experience. Workers share their genuine experiences about:
We have Community Guidelines in place to prevent false information, personal attacks, and content that violates our policies. Users can report problematic content, and we review all flagged reports.
We take accuracy seriously. If you believe information about your restaurant is incorrect or violates our Community Guidelines, you can report it. We review all reports and take appropriate action.
